A classic of Southwestern silverwork. This Native American made sterling silver bolo tie carries a bear paw in shadowbox style, with four long claws cut through the silver over a dark recessed background. An oval turquoise stone with dark matrix sits in the pad of the paw beside a polished red stone, each in its own serrated bezel with a silver raindrop between them.
The paw is framed by a beaded twisted-wire border and a hand-stamped scalloped edge on a large domed oval slide measuring about 3 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches wide. The back is signed W.M. and stamped Sterling, and the slide rides on a black braided leather cord finished with long tapered silver tips.
